KBRN, Pamekasan: Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Chief Marthinus Hukom has raised concerns over the rampant circulation of illegal drugs, which have reportedly infiltrated remote villages in island regions.
He revealed that one of the most affected areas is Madura, East Java, where drug trafficking has intensified. As evidence, authorities recently seized 38 kilograms of narcotics in the waters off Masalembo, Sumenep Regency.
"This demonstrates that drugs have spread extensively across Madura, even reaching its outlying islands," Hukom said on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, following a narcotics disposal event in Pamekasan.
He urged all segments of society to take an active role in combating drug trafficking, stressing that law enforcement efforts alone are insufficient.
"Drug abuse is a crime against humanity—we must rise together, foster anger and hatred toward these illicit substances," Hukom asserted. "Every element of society must play a vital role in preventing the spread of this menace."
During the disposal event in Pamekasan, BNN officials destroyed confiscated drugs, including 6,869.095 grams of methamphetamine and 10,608.417 grams of marijuana.
Hukom emphasized that the destruction of these narcotics reaffirms BNN's commitment to eradicating drug circulation, which continues to threaten communities, including in Madura.
"I personally came to Madura today to show that BNN does not operate in silence. We are not only focused on law enforcement and rehabilitation but also on raising public awareness about the dangers of drugs," he said.
Among the attendees were representatives from the East Java BNN office, East Java Deputy Governor Emil Elistianto Dardak, Pamekasan regional leadership officials, religious figures, community leaders, and students from various schools.
The event aimed to educate young generations on the dangers of drug abuse. ***
