RRI.CO.ID, Batang – Batang Station is a railway station located in Batang Regency, Central Java. Situated along Java's northern railway corridor, it serves as a transit point connecting local towns with major cities across the island.
Its history dates back to the Dutch colonial era. Built by the Semarang-Cheribon Stoomtram Maatschappij (SCS, "Semarang-Cirebon Steam Tram Company"), the line officially opened in 1898 to facilitate regional transport and trade.
However, the station was relocated in 2013 after the double-track railway corridor was completed. The Indonesian government decided to abandon the old building and build a new one about 1.6 km east.
Positioned near the island's northern coast, the station sits at a low altitude: just five meters above sea level. This coastal geography gives the surrounding tracks a relatively flat landscape typical of Java's northern plains.
The station, operated by Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), features four tracks and two side platforms to accommodate passing and stopping trains. Tracks 2 and 3 serve as the main double-track lines for intercity services, while tracks 1 and 4 handle local commuter passenger stops.
One distinctive aspect of Batang Railway Station is its proximity to the Java Sea coastline and nearby scenic beaches. Additionally, after temporary closures in past decades, the station was reactivated for regular passenger service in March 2019.
Today, Batang Railway Station serves local commuter lines connecting Central Java cities such as Semarang, Pekalongan, and Tegal, as well as long-distance trains. Its historic footprint and modernized track layout continue to support everyday mobility for locals and visitors alike.
