Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy 2026 Brings Local Flavors to the World

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Tourism officially launched Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy 2026, highlighting Indonesian cuisine as cultural heritage and tourism attraction. The program carries the theme “From Local Roots to Global Recognition,” strengthening Indonesia’s gastronomy ecosystem and international exposure.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Tourism on Tuesday, the second edition explores Indonesia’s culinary roots while expanding promotion through activities centered in Solo and Yogyakarta from September 26 to October 4, 2026. Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said Indonesian gastronomy represents more than flavors, reflecting cultural richness and traditions passed through generations.

“Through Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy 2026, we invite the world to look closer and discover that the journey from local cultural roots to global recognition begins here, in Indonesia,” Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said during a press conference at the Balairung Soesilo Soedarman Building in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. She added that gastronomy can connect culinary heritage with tourism while creating opportunities for Indonesian culinary products and destinations globally.

Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy 2026 also features Rendez-Vous Rasa, organized through collaboration with the French Embassy and Institut Français Indonesia. French Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and ASEAN Fabien Penone said the collaboration reflects efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and France.

“Cooperation between France and Indonesia in gastronomy is not solely aimed at introducing the culinary richness of each country. More importantly, this cooperation builds long-term relationships between culinary traditions, professionals, and younger generations of both countries, while contributing to the preservation and development of our gastronomic heritage,” Fabien said on Tuesday.

One of this collaboration will be presented through a Six-Hands Dinner during the opening of WIG 2026 at Pura Mangkunegaran, Surakarta, on September 26, 2026. The dinner will bring together two Indonesian chefs, Chef Degan Septoadji and Chef Wayan Ari Wibowo, with Chef Stéphane Carrade from France, a two-MICHELIN-starred chef.

The program also involves strategic partners through Culinary Festivals held at 32 shopping malls across 14 cities. Through cross-sector collaboration, Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy 2026 seeks to enhance Indonesian gastronomy while bringing local culinary traditions to wider international audiences.
