Indonesia Wins Two Golds at Guiyang World Climbing Series

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s strong showing in speed climbing at the World Climbing Series Guiyang 2026 has strengthened the country’s position in the discipline, with its athletes securing two gold medals after three days of competition in Guiyang, Guizhou, China.

Antasyafi Robby Al Hilmi first won gold in the men’s speed event before Raharjati Nursamsa and Rajiah Sallsabillah added another gold in the mixed speed relay on Saturday night, September 12.

The Indonesian pair clocked 11.35 seconds in the final to claim the top podium position.

China’s second team Zhou Ziyu/Zhang Mengli took silver in 14.85 seconds, while the United States’ first team of Samuel Watson and Emma Hunt won bronze in 11.85 seconds.

Drama began in the semifinal when China’s second team faced the United States’ first team, which holds the world record in the mixed relay with a time of 10.89 seconds. A mistake by the US team allowed the Chinese pair to advance to the final with a time of 11.82 seconds.

In the final, China’s second team made an error on the wall and finished in 14.85 seconds, while Indonesia’s first team climbed smoothly to secure gold in 11.35 seconds.

The result highlighted Indonesia’s overall performance in Guiyang. Indonesia’s second team, consisting of Antasyafi Robby Al Hilmi and Kadek Adi Asih, lost to the US first team in the men’s mixed relay quarterfinals, recording 11.97 seconds against 11.46 seconds.

The US first team later defeated France’s Jerome Morel/Capucine Viglione 11.85-13.40 seconds in the bronze-medal race.

Indonesia sent five athletes to Guiyang, consisting of two men and three women. The delegation competed in the men’s speed individual, women’s speed individual, mixed speed relay, men’s speed relay and women’s speed relay events. They collected gold medals in the men’s speed individual and mixed speed relay.

"The success came from the athletes’ consistency in training," Indonesian national climbing team head coach Galar Pandu Asmoro said on Sunday, September 13, as quoted by Antara. He added that the mixed speed relay team had achieved all of its targets in Guiyang.

Robby won the men’s individual speed title one day before the mixed relay final. During the mixed relay final, he and his coach continued encouraging Indonesia’s first team from below the climbing wall.

Robby also used his phone several times to record his teammates’ performances and the medal ceremony. After the ceremony, he congratulated and interviewed his two teammates, creating a warm and celebratory atmosphere.

"I am very happy and grateful to win the gold medal," Nursamsa said. He stressed that there was no special secret behind the victory. "Consistency in training is the key to winning gold," he added.

"I am very happy to stand on the highest podium. In Krakow, I also partnered with Nursamsa, but we did not make the podium. I only tried to make myself better, and now I am on the highest podium," Sallsabillah said, marking her first gold medal of the 2026 season.

Indonesia’s performance in Guiyang adds to its growing achievements in speed climbing and demonstrates the benefits of consistent training and competition experience ahead of future international events. ***
