RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto, instructed the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, to not increase the price of subsidized fuel oil (BBM) despite the ongoing fluctuations in global oil prices. Meanwhile, the price of non-subsidized BBM will be considered for adjustment if crude oil prices decrease.

"The President's directive orders that the price of subsidized fuel must not be increased," Bahlil said after meeting President Prabowo in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

The President also instructed that the prices of non-subsidized fuel be considered for adjustment when crude oil prices decrease. "If the world ICP price really goes down, we who are non-subsidized will also be considered to be adjusted to the market price. If it goes down, then it goes down, don't raise it," he said.

Bahlil affirmed that the public need not worry about subsidized fuel prices. According to him, the government is committed to maintaining the stability of subsidized fuel prices even tho energy prices in the global market continue to fluctuate.

He explained that around 80 percent of national fuel consumption is subsidized fuel, which is the government's responsibility. Meanwhile, non-subsidized fuel only accounts for about 20 percent of total national consumption and is generally used by people with higher economic capacity.

"Because a total of 80 percent of fuel consumption is subsidized. The non-subsidized part is 20 percent, which is for those who can afford it. But the 80 percent still remains the responsibility of the government, which is the subsidy," The Minister said

The government's commitment aligns with the adjustment of non-subsidized fuel prices carried out by PT Pertamina Patra Niaga on August 1, 2026. In that adjustment, the prices of Pertamax Turbo, Pertamax Green 95, and Pertamax (RON 92) decreased in line with global oil price developments.
