RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia's Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, said Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) needs to continuously adapt to technological developments and the new media ecosystem to remain relevant amid changes in how people consume information.

“I believe (RRI) must adapt to new technologies,” Nezar said when met after attending the 81st Anniversary Commemoration Seminar of RRI 2026 at the Yusuf Ronodipuro Auditorium of RRI, Jakarta, Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

Nezar said technological developments have driven a shift from conventional radio to digital platforms and streaming services, which have become major places where audiences gather. According to him, RRI cannot ignore this change and therefore needs to adapt to the new media environment and ecosystem.

“We cannot reject this reality. So, how can RRI adapt to the new environment, to the new media ecosystem?” he said.

Nezar said such adaptation is important for RRI to remain relevant while maintaining its spirit, rich history, and perspective in safeguarding national interests. He said there is no obstacle for RRI to undergo transformation as long as it maintains its character, integrity, and historical responsibility as a public broadcasting institution.

“What is needed is creativity, integrity, and a sense of historical responsibility,” he said.

Nezar stressed that the government will support efforts to strengthen RRI as a public communication platform. According to him, RRI has a constitutional and legal foundation as a public broadcasting institution operating under the law.

“I believe it is our collective responsibility to strengthen public communication platforms that operate under the law and belong to the people of Indonesia, and to strengthen the presence of RRI in Indonesia,” Nezar said.
