RRI.CO.ID, Central Java - The Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections is encouraging the strengthening of the legal aid system. It is expected so that every citizen, especially those facing legal processes, can receive fair and equitable assistance.

Acting Deputy for Human Rights Coordination at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Imipas, Prof. Fitra Arsil, stated that legal aid has become one of the priority agendas for national human rights development for the 2025–2029 period. According to him, legal aid is not merely a form of assistance from the state, but an instrument to reduce inequality when the public faces the legal system.

"Legal aid is not merely a form of compassion or charity from the state, but an instrument to correct imbalances when citizens face the legal system," Fitra said in a meeting with the Regional Police and the High Court of Central Java, Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

He explained that the right to legal assistance must be fulfilled from the early stages of the investigation. Law enforcement officers are obligated to inform the suspect of their right to legal representation and ensure access to a lawyer or legal aid provider in accordance with applicable regulations.

The Deputy Chief of the Central Java Regional Police, Brigadier General Latif Usman, welcomed the coordination. According to him, inter-agency synergy is necessary to improve services to the community, especially in fulfilling citizens' legal rights.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Justice of the Central Java High Court, Suprapti, stated that all 35 District Courts in Central Java have established Legal Aid Posts (Posbakum) that provide consultation services, legal information, and assistance in drafting legal documents for the community.

The Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections will use the results of the working visit, including input related to the budget, access to services, and legal assistance mechanisms, as material for drafting policy recommendations at the central government level.

Thru the strengthening of the legal aid system, the government hopes that public access to justice can become broader and that legal services can operate more evenly and be oriented toward the fulfillment of human rights.
