Govt and Labor Groups Discuss Strengthening Worker Protection Bill

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Minister of Manpower, Yassierli met with representatives of the Grand Coalition for the Struggle of Indonesian Workers (KBPBI) to hear their aspirations and input on the drafting of the Worker Protection Bill in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. The discussion was part of efforts to strengthen labor regulations that protect workers while also supporting the interests of businesses.

During the meeting, KBPBI submitted a number of recommendations on strengthening labor regulations. Minister Yassierli welcomed the input and said contributions from various stakeholders were important to the regulatory drafting process.

“Of course, we will accept and appreciate all the input. We will then discuss it further with the House of Representatives,” Yassierli said.

He expressed hope that discussions on the Worker Protection Bill would result in fairer regulations for all parties. The legislation is expected to have a positive impact on labor development while supporting Indonesia’s broader development.

According to him, labor regulations need to strike a balance between protecting workers and supporting industrial growth. The government hopes the resulting regulations will strengthen industrial relations and create a working environment that promotes workers’ welfare while supporting industrial development.

Meanwhile, President of the Confederation of Indonesian Prosperity Trade Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, expressed appreciation for the opportunity provided by the government for labor representatives to convey their aspirations. He said he hoped discussions on the bill would continue to take the interests of Indonesian workers into account.

“However, we hope that the Worker Protection Bill will be discussed further by taking into account the interests of Indonesian workers,” he stated.

The various inputs submitted during the meeting are expected to serve as considerations in further discussions with the House of Representatives. The government and labor representatives hope the Worker Protection Bill will accommodate the interests of workers and all stakeholders within the labor ecosystem, in line with efforts to build a stronger industrial sector and improve workers’ welfare.
