RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - With Eid al-Fitr approaching, the Ministry of Home Affairs has called on regional administrations to remain vigilant in maintaining commodity supplies and stabilizing prices. Secretary-General Tomsi Tohir stressed that local administrations must ensure availability in markets through the festive season.

“We must sustain this until Eid al-Fitr,” Tomsi said in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 3, during the 2026 National Inflation Control Coordination Meeting, which also reviewed the Three Million Houses program and halal product certification.

Tomsi noted that regional administrations have so far succeeded in curbing volatile food prices ahead of Ramadan. He urged governors and mayors to respond swiftly to unusual price hikes by visiting markets directly and adopting best practices from neighboring regions. “This way, no adjacent areas will show extreme differences in inflation levels,” he explained.

Issuing a stern warning, Tomsi condemned distributors who deliberately manipulate staple prices. He instructed local administrations and law enforcement to take firm action, including revoking business licenses of those proven to engage in economic misconduct. “Do not hesitate. It is time we act decisively,” he asserted.

Despite these challenges, Tomsi praised ministries, agencies, and local administrations for keeping most key commodities below the government’s reference price. He emphasized that food costs during Ramadan 2026 are significantly more affordable compared to the previous year.

“I extend my gratitude to all ministries, institutions, and regional administrations for their tireless efforts,” he said. ***
