RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: The Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the banking industry strengthen climate risk resilience by launching a new collaboration. This initiative was introduced during the Indonesia-UK Working Group on Climate Financing event in Jakarta, Thursday, 26 February 2026. The Indonesian government aims to accelerate sustainable financing through this strategic partnership with the United Kingdom.
This working group focuses on developing a robust framework for managing climate-related financial risks in Indonesia. Both nations will share technical expertise to support the transition toward a low-carbon and sustainable global economy. The Indonesian government remains committed to achieving the Net Zero Emission target through innovative financial sector policies.
The collaboration involves various stakeholders, including international financial institutions and major commercial banks operating within Indonesia. It aims to enhance the capacity of local bankers in assessing environmental risks for their investment portfolios. This step is crucial for maintaining national financial stability amidst the growing challenges of global climate change.
The Chief Executive of Banking Supervision of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) emphasized the importance of this bilateral cooperation. He stated that the working group would provide a platform for better knowledge exchange and policy alignment.
"The formation of the Indonesia-UK Working Group on Climate Financing is a concrete step to strengthen the banking sector. This collaboration will help us develop international standards for climate risk management and sustainable financing in Indonesia," Dian Ediana Rae said.
He further mentioned that the banking sector plays a pivotal role in funding green projects across the country. The Indonesian government continues to encourage banks to integrate environmental considerations into their core business strategies.
"This initiative also reflects our commitment to supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy through a more resilient financial system. We hope this working group can provide innovative solutions for the challenges of climate financing at the global level," he stated.
The British Embassy in Jakarta also expressed full support for this initiative to boost green investment flows. This partnership serves as a bridge for British investors to participate in Indonesia’s sustainable development projects. Such cooperation demonstrates how Indonesia contributes to global environmental goals through strong international and domestic synergy.
Sustainable finance is no longer an option but a necessity for the modern banking industry in Indonesia. The Indonesian government will continue to monitor the progress of this working group to ensure impactful results. This effort will ultimately benefit the environment while ensuring long-term economic growth for the Indonesian people.
