RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Trend forecasting and intellectual property (IP) protection have emerged as critical drivers for transforming wastra (traditional Indonesian textiles) into commercially viable, export-oriented fashion collections for the global market.

The strategic role of trend analysis was highlighted by the Ministry of Creative Economy during the Kick Off of IN2MOTIONFEST x Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW) in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 29, where industry leaders emphasized adapting heritage fabrics into contemporary ready-to-wear lines.

"The Ministry of Creative Economy recognizes the role of trend forecasting in elevating Wastra Nusantara, and we provide support so that local designers' products are not only globally competitive but also protected through IP rights," said Fashion Director at the Ministry of Creative Economy, Iffah Sa'aidah, in an official statement on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

By integrating trend forecasting, designers can align traditional weaving and batik techniques with evolving international market preferences while retaining their intrinsic cultural identity. To safeguard these creative assets abroad, the ministry is actively facilitating trademark, design copyright, and motif registrations for local fashion creators.

Collaborating as a strategic partner, the Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC) stressed that applying trend insights must translate directly into commercial readiness rather than remaining confined to conceptual runway showcases.

Ali Charisma, Project Officer for IN2MOTIONFEST x JMFW, noted that rigorous international curation standards are being implemented to ensure traditional textile collections are prepared for global business-to-business (B2B) and retail channels.

"With Trend Forecasting as inspiration, designers' works are directed not only toward runway aesthetics, but toward business readiness, costing, pricing, and digital merchandising," Ali explained, adding that masterclasses, workshops, and industry forums will help transform traditional textile artisans and local brands into sustainable global enterprises.

These strategies focusing on wastra innovation and commercial readiness will feature prominently at the main IN2MOTIONFEST x JMFW event, set to take place from October 14 to 18, 2026, at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) in Senayan, Jakarta. ***
