RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Executive Director of Brand Commercialization for Disney Consumer Products, South Asia Pacific, Tan Wee, introduced Disney Jajan (Jajan means buying snack or street food, traditional snack) at the Jakarta Illustration and Creative Arts Fair (JICAF) 2026. The Disney Indonesia collaboration brings together three local artists to present their interpretations of the character Stitch through an Indonesian cultural lens.

Disney Jajan is a special collaboration between Disney Indonesia and three selected innovation-focused artists. They were tasked with reimagining Stitch inspired by Indonesian street snacks (jajanan), local culture, and everyday street life.

“Through Disney Jajan, we invite artists to bring their own interpretations of Stitch that are inspired by local Indonesian snacks, culture, and street life,” said Tan Wee during the JICAF 2026 press conference at Agora Mall, Central Jakarta on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

The project features works by three Indonesian artists, which are Ykha Amelz, WD Wily, and Liunic, each applying their distinctive styles. Together, they present Stitch through unique perspectives that highlight Indonesian creativity and cultural identity.

Tan Wee described Disney Jajan as a way to introduce familiar Disney characters through the creativity of Indonesian artists. He expressed hope that these local perspectives could reach wider audiences and, one day, be showcased globally.

“Indonesia is home to a passionate community of artists with unique visual voices. Through Disney Jajan, we hope to present these local perspectives to a broader audience, and hopefully, one day, take them around the world as well,” he said.

According to Tan Wee, compelling ideas emerge when global storytelling meets local creativity, creating fresh experiences for fans. The collaboration also serves as a new touchpoint that celebrates the creativity, culture, and talent that make Indonesia unique.

“Through collaborations like this, we create new touchpoints for fans while celebrating the creativity, culture, and talent that make Indonesia unique,” added Tan Wee.

He noted that Disney Jajan marks the beginning of a multi-year initiative by Disney Indonesia and invited the public to follow upcoming projects. He also appreciated the artists and local partners involved in bringing the project to life alongside JICAF 2026.

This year’s JICAF emphasizes inclusivity by opening space for illustrators at the start of their careers as well as across various creative industries. Co-Founder and Fair Director of JICAF, Sunny Gho, said inclusivity is a key focus for the 2026 edition.

Sunny explained that JICAF aims to involve both professional illustrators and creators beginning their career journeys. Inclusivity is also pursued by strengthening connections between illustrators and the diverse industries engaged by JICAF.

“How do we stay inclusive toward friends who are just starting their careers? So we have categories for professionals and SPARKS. And we’re also inclusive with those industries, we’ll present even more experiences,” she said at the press conference.

JICAF 2026 runs from September 17 to October 4, 2026, at Agora Mall, Level 2, Central Jakarta, showcasing a wide range of illustration works and creative projects. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
