Russia Reveals Mission Behind Visit of Three Warships to Jakarta

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Russia has revealed the mission behind the visit of three Pacific Fleet warships to Jakarta. The visit is described as peaceful and aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Russia and Indonesia.

Deputy Commander of the Pacific Fleet’s Northeastern Forces, Rear Admiral Evgeny Myasoedov, told the media during an open ship event at Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta on Friday, October 2, 2026.

“The purpose of the visit by the Russian naval task force today is peaceful. The visit of the Russian ships is not directed against any country,” Myasoedov said.

Meanwhile, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov, said the goodwill visit, which runs from September 30 to October 4, 2026, also aims to develop practical cooperation between the two countries.

Responding to questions about increasing geopolitical competition in the Indo-Pacific, Tolchenov stressed that Russia is actively building partnerships, both bilaterally and multilaterally, and does not want to be involved in competition in the region.

“We do not want to be involved in any competition here. This visit is also a step and an effort by the Russian Federation and our friendly countries to enhance mutual understanding, prevent incidents at sea, and show other countries that we are not afraid and are ready to ensure our security with our own capabilities,” he said.

The Russian Pacific Fleet task force consists of the RFS Marshal Shaposhnikov (543), the destroyer Admiral Tributs (564), and the tanker Pechenga. The task force sailed for 28 days from Vladivostok before arriving in Jakarta.

Before departing for their next destination, Malaysia, the Russian Navy and the Indonesian Navy will conduct joint maritime exercises, including a passing exercise (PASSEX) and a communications exercise (COMMEX).

The personnel of both navies will also take part in sports activities as part of the program to strengthen friendship and ties between the two naval forces.
