ICAO Council President Reviews Indonesia’s Aviation Facilities

RRI.CO.ID, Tangerang - President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council, Toshiyuki Onuma visited Indonesia’s aviation training and air navigation facilities at the Human Resources Development Center for Civil Aviation in Curug, Tangerang, on Friday, September 11, 2026. At the facility, Onuma reviewed aviation training programs and facilities that have earned the PPSDM Perhubungan Udara the ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Platinum Training Centre of Excellence designation.

He also praised Indonesia’s efforts to develop aviation human resources, which he said are important for improving aviation safety and security.

“Education for the next generation is important and essential, but it is also a major challenge for all parties,” Onuma said, according to a statement from the Ministry of Transportation in Jakarta on Saturday.

He expressed hope that aviation human resources development would contribute to improving aviation safety and security in each country, in line with ICAO’s No Country Left Behind principle. Onuma then visited the New Jakarta Air Traffic Services Centre (New JATSC), operated by Perum LPPNPI, also known as AirNav Indonesia. During the visit, he observed firsthand the air traffic management systems used to manage flights in Indonesia’s airspace.

According to him, air navigation is an important part of ICAO’s agenda to ensure airspace remains safe, secure, sustainable, and efficient. “I greatly appreciate the opportunity to see firsthand how Indonesia contributes to and demonstrates its commitment to this important agenda of our organization,” he said.

Onuma also emphasized the importance of concrete collaboration between Indonesia and ICAO in advancing shared objectives in civil aviation. “Collaboration between Indonesia and ICAO is not only necessary, but also very important to be realized in concrete terms,” he said.

Meanwhile, Director General of Civil Aviation Lukman F. Laisa, said the ICAO Council President’s visit would further strengthen the long-standing partnership between Indonesia and ICAO. “Mr. Onuma’s visit further strengthens the long-standing partnership between Indonesia and ICAO,” Lukman said.

He said the cooperation also provides an opportunity to deepen efforts to build a safer, more secure, sustainable, efficient, and resilient international civil aviation system.
