RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia’s 13th Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has called on Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi group to build a “bridge of dialogue” aimed at halting escalating tensions in the Bab el‑Mandeb region.

Speaking through his spokesperson Masduki Baidlowi in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Ma'ruf warned that the conflict threatens regional stability, international trade routes, and the global economy.

He expressed deep concern over rising hostilities, including recent attacks on oil tankers. He stressed that prolonged fighting among Muslim nations harms not only the warring parties but also the wider Islamic world, including Indonesia.

“Kiai Ma’ruf Amin is very saddened by the current situation. He appeals to the conscience of leaders in Saudi Arabia and the Houthi group to immediately lay down arms,” Masduki said, as quoted by Antara.

He added that blood and honor are sacred in Islam, stressing that it is time to replace weapons with constructive dialogue. To encourage peace, Ma’ruf proposed a “Four-Pillar Dialogue Bridge”.

The framework calls for a humanitarian ceasefire to halt military operations and prevent a crisis, renewed dialogue through the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and global scholars, inclusive political reconciliation to establish a regional security roadmap, and the creation of a conflict-free zone in Bab el-Mandeb to protect international logistics and energy supplies.

Masduki emphasized that Indonesia, as the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, stands ready to support any peace initiative. “War never produces true winners; it only brings destruction for future generations. Let us end this conflict and rebuild a dignified bridge of dialogue,” he concluded.

This appeal reflects Indonesia’s role as a moral voice in global diplomacy, linking humanitarian concerns with economic stability. By calling for dialogue, Indonesia seeks to prevent further disruption to one of the world’s most strategic maritime corridors and reinforce the importance of cooperation among Muslim nations. ***
