RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is moving to accelerate labor diplomacy with Greece, as officials highlight growing demand for Indonesian migrant workers in key sectors.

Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Deputy Minister Christina Aryani is pushing for a government-to-government (G to G) placement scheme to expand legal employment opportunities abroad.

During a meeting in Jakarta on Monday, April 20, 2026 with Greek Ambassador Dimitrios Michalopoulos, Christina followed up on her November 2025 visit to Athens, where she explored job prospects for Indonesian workers across multiple industries.

She noted that Greece’s hospitality sector, in particular, offers concrete opportunities for legal placements. “To that end, we encourage the immediate start of discussions on a G to G memorandum of understanding. We also ask for the Ambassador’s support in conveying this to relevant parties in Greece,” Christina said in a statement on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

She emphasized that the initiative is part of Indonesia’s broader labor diplomacy strategy, aimed at opening wider access to global job markets while ensuring structured, safe, and well-protected pathways for workers. “This cooperation is expected to become a concrete entry point for Indonesian workers to build careers abroad legally and professionally,” she added.

During her 2025 visit, Christina also met Greece’s Deputy Minister for Migration and Asylum, Sevi Voulodaki, along with placement agencies and employers, to discuss opportunities for Indonesian labor in the country. ***
