RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka has advised Indonesian nationals in Bangladesh to remain cautious and prioritize personal safety as the country prepares for its first general election since the collapse of Sheikh Hasina’s government in mid-2024.

“In connection with the upcoming Bangladesh election on February 12, 2026, the Embassy urges Indonesian citizens in Bangladesh to closely monitor developments and maintain heightened vigilance,” the Embassy stated in a written announcement shared on social media, as observed from Jakarta on Saturday, February 7, 2026, Antara reported.

According to the Embassy, security conditions in Bangladesh remain stable in the lead-up to polling day, with daily activities continuing as normal. However, Indonesians are advised to avoid large crowds and mass gathering points, while keeping track of updates from reliable and official sources.

The Embassy also reminded citizens to keep important contact numbers on hand and to reach out via its hotline (+880-1614-444-452) in case of emergencies.

Bangladesh’s election on February 12 will see more than 100 million eligible voters cast their ballots in what analysts describe as a pivotal moment for the country’s future following the fall of Hasina’s regime, Anadolu reported. 

Campaigning began on January 22 and will continue until February 10, with preliminary results expected on election day.

Because a constitutional referendum will be held simultaneously, final vote counts may take longer to conclude. With the Awami League barred from contesting, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami have emerged as the main contenders vying for public support. ***
