RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has vehemently condemned Israel's latest multi-billion-dollar plan to expand illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, declaring the move a flagrant violation of international law and United Nations resolutions.

The official rebuke follows reports that the Israeli government has finalized a massive framework agreement valued at 8.5 billion shekels (USD 2.3 billion) to aggressively scale up its settlement footprint. According to reports cited from Anadolu Agency, the project involves constructing 12,000 new housing units alongside extensive infrastructure developments across the northern territories.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang reiterated Indonesia’s unwavering diplomatic stance regarding the ongoing territorial disputes.

"Indonesia is closely monitoring reports regarding the planned expansion of Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including the West Bank. Indonesia's position remains consistent; we strongly condemn the plan to expand illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank," Yvonne stated in Jakarta on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

She emphasized that the expanding settlement infrastructure directly defies established international consensus and multiple UN resolutions, which explicitly state that Israeli demographic changes in occupied territories carry zero legal validity.

"The expansion of illegal settlements will only worsen the situation on the ground, escalate tensions, diminish peace prospects, and obstruct efforts toward achieving a two-state solution. Indonesia urges Israel to immediately halt all illegal settlement activities and comply with its obligations under international law," the spokesperson added.

The Indonesian Government has issued a renewed appeal to global bodies and strategic international partners to move beyond rhetoric and implement concrete measures that enforce international legal frameworks.

Jakarta maintains that long-term stability hinges on supporting an independent, sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem established as its rightful capital.

The legal and physical expansion has sparked widespread regional alarm. The executive agreement was formalised during an official ceremony attended by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, Land Authority Director-General Yehuda Eliyahu, and Yossi Dagan, the head of the Shomron Regional Council.

Furthermore, Israel's Security Cabinet recently greenlit a blueprint to establish 13 new outposts in the central West Bank corridor, a development that Palestinian officials warn will systematically fragment the West Bank and isolate East Jerusalem from surrounding Palestinian towns.

According to data compiled by the Israeli settlement watchdog organization Peace Now, roughly 500,000 Israelis currently reside in illegal outposts across the West Bank, with an additional 250,000 living in settled zones throughout occupied East Jerusalem. (Naura Sofia-EN)
