RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s 100 GWp solar power program is expected to expand healthcare access in remote and underserved areas. Vice Minister of Health, Dante Saksono Harbuwono, made the statement during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

The Indonesian government is maximizing the program to strengthen basic services, including healthcare facilities serving remote communities. Dante said reliable electricity can support vaccine storage and the operation of essential medical equipment at health centers.

He highlighted the program’s potential to strengthen healthcare systems in isolated villages across Indonesia. He said electricity access can support monitoring equipment, electrocardiogram devices, and ultrasound machines at remote health centers.

“If this can reach remote and isolated villages, it can also build a stronger healthcare system. Vaccines can be stored in refrigerators, while monitoring equipment and electrocardiogram devices can be used. The ultrasound machines we have distributed to health centers across remote areas, including 10,000 health centers throughout the country, can also be used. So, this is extraordinary. The village electrification initiative is an extraordinary breakthrough,” he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Government Communications Agency, Muhammad Qodari, described the program as part of Indonesia’s transformation in energy access. He said broader energy access can help communities become more self-reliant, productive, and economically active.

“This is a manifestation of Indonesia’s transformation from areas with limited energy access toward communities that are more self-reliant, productive, and have greater economic opportunities,” Qodari said.

The Indonesian government officially launched the 100 GWp solar power program on August 25, 2026. The program began with 14 solar power projects totaling around 5.3 GWp across six provinces.

The government targets achieving 100 GWp of solar power capacity within three years across Indonesia. The program is also projected to create 5.52 million jobs and reduce emissions by up to 140 million tons of carbon dioxide.
