RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - A joint painting exhibition hosted by SBY Art Community (SAC), titled Art for Peace and a Better Future: Collaboration, serves as the primary highlight of Jakarta's Independence Month cultural showcases, running from August 18 to 30, 2026, at the Emiria Soenassa and Oesman Effendi galleries in Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM).

Curated by Gie Sanjaya to commemorate the 81st anniversary of Indonesia's Independence Day, the exhibition features 150 curated paintings, including 52 works by former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), 29 pieces by Berlin-based plein air artist Christopher Lehmpfuhl, 63 works by SAC members, five by child painters, and a joint collaborative canvas.

Officially opened by a joint brushstroke ceremony involving government officials and international artists, the showcase is supported by the Ministry of Creative Economy through workshops and artist talks aimed at reinforcing cultural diplomacy between sister cities Jakarta and Berlin.

Ministers and international guest artists noted that cross-border artistic collaborations strengthen international diplomacy and promote messages of peace through creative expression.

Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya commended the exhibition's international reach and thematic focus. "We express our appreciation to SBY Art Community and its participating painters," he said at TIM on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, as quoted on the ministry's official website.

"Through these works, the artists convey reflections and responses to current global situations. These ideas can then be enjoyed and understood by the public, especially in Jakarta, through the universal language of art," he continued.

He added that the Ministry of Creative Economy will continue facilitating platforms that allow Indonesian creators to build global networks.

"We hope this collaboration within SBY Art Community continues to grow and opens more opportunities for Indonesian artists to create works and network at the international level," the minister said. ***
