RRI.CO.ID, Banyuwangi - Farm-raised live coral from Banyuwangi Regency in East Java Province has reached markets in around 20 countries across Asia, the Americas, and Europe.

PT Srikandi Aquarium exported live coral worth USD 2,500 to the United States on Friday, August 28, 2026. The export shipment was officially launched by Trade Minister Budi Santoso at Ketapang Port.

PT Srikandi Aquarium owner, I Ketut Sukandi, said the company has cultivated and exported live coral since 2011. Over roughly 15 years, its products have reached about 20 countries on three continents.

He said all coral marketed by the company comes from aquaculture activities rather than direct collection from the wild. The cultivation is carried out at the company’s facility on the Situbondo–Banyuwangi road in Bulusan Village, Kalipuro Subdistrict, Banyuwangi Regency.

The company currently cultivates around 29 coral species, with annual production reaching approximately 80,000 colonies. “Our production is around 80,000 coral colonies a year,” he said, as quoted by infopublik.id.

Sukandi said the entire output is intended for export, as overseas demand remains strong. Shipments are made regularly every eight to 10 days, with average export value reaching around USD 25,000 per month. “The market is quite good, and coral prices are relatively stable and not too volatile,” he said.

Despite its promising export market, coral cultivation faces challenges from sea conditions, particularly when waves become stronger. Sukandi said high waves can affect cultivation tables placed at sea, requiring their structures to be reinforced.

“This August, for example, the waves have been quite high. The cultivation tables at sea can shake, so they need to be reinforced to prevent them from overturning,” said Sukandi.

He expressed hope that more Banyuwangi residents would develop coral-cultivation businesses. At present, there are only around 10 coral cultivators in the region. “In Indonesia, major cultivation centers are located in Jakarta and Bali. In total, there are nearly 100 business operators,” he said.

Meanwhile, Trade Minister, Budi Santoso, said the government continues to encourage Indonesian micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to expand into international markets.

The Minister said the Trade Ministry has a network of overseas representatives that businesses can use to promote their products and connect with prospective buyers abroad.

“The Trade Ministry has Trade Representatives, Trade Attachés, and Indonesian Trade Promotion Centers (ITPCs) in 33 countries. Their task is to find buyers and promote Indonesian products, including MSME products from Banyuwangi,” said Minister Budi.

The export of farm-raised coral represents one opportunity to utilize Banyuwangi’s marine potential through cultivation activities that offer both economic value and access to international markets. ***
