RRI.CO.ID, Pekalongan – Pekalongan Station is a major train station located in the heart of the city of Pekalongan, Central Java. Positioned along Java's vital northern railway corridor, it connects major metropolitan hubs like Jakarta and Surabaya with regional coastal towns.

The station's history dates back to the Dutch East Indies era in the late 19th century. Built by the private railway enterprise Semarang-Cheribon Stoomtram Maatschappij (SCS, "Semarang-Cirebon Steam Tram Company"), the railway section passing through Pekalongan officially opened to traffic in 1898.

Situated near Java's northern coastline, the station stands four meters above sea level. This low coastal altitude provides flat, straight approach tracks that allow smooth rail movement across the northern plains.

The station, operated by Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), consists of six train tracks flanked by two island platforms and one side platform. Tracks 2 and 3 serve as the main lines for through passenger trains, while the surrounding tracks accommodate stopping services and regional freight traffic.

A notable feature of Pekalongan Station, as well as other major stations nearby, is its distinctive arrival melody, with the traditional song Gambang Semarang played to welcome incoming passenger trains. Additionally, the station building preserves classic colonial architectural elements under a large curved steel shed canopy over the main platforms.

Travelers stepping outside the station can quickly reach famous nearby tourist attractions, such as the Pekalongan Batik Museum, where visitors can learn about the history of Indonesian batik, which UNESCO recognizes as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Cultural landmarks like the historic Kampung Batik Kauman are also situated just a short drive from the station.

For local transit beyond ride-hailing services, passengers can readily access traditional angkot (shared minibuses) operating routes right outside the station terminal. Conventional city taxis, pedal rickshaws (becak), and intercity buses at nearby main highway stops offer additional public transport options.
