RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism is urging travelers to explore diverse, multi-faceted activities within single destinations, spanning gastronomy, culture, maritime adventures, and local crafts, to elevate visitor experiences and broaden economic benefits for local communities.
Speaking in Jakarta Deputy Tourism Minister Ni Luh Puspa highlighted that experience-based marketing aims to transform traditional sightseeing into authentic, personalized, and meaningful journeys.
"We want to ensure that tourists' stays in Indonesia become increasingly high-quality and that the benefits are felt more widely by the Indonesian people," Ni Luh said in an official statement on Thursday, October 1, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Under its Go Beyond Ordinary campaign, the ministry is prioritizing length of stay and local expenditure over mere arrival numbers. The strategy encourages business travelers and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) participants to extend their itineraries with cultural tours, culinary excursions, and regional activities.
As part of its Quality Tourism Program, the ministry is bolstering five special-interest tourism segments: gastronomy, maritime, wellness, traditional textiles (wastra), and arts and design.
Deputy Minister for Marketing Ni Made Ayu Marthini noted that research presented at the Indonesia Tourism & MICE Outlook 2027 shows approximately 52 percent of Gen Z travelers prioritize unique experiences over conventional sightseeing.
To support this shift, the ministry is utilizing AI technology via MaiA (Meticulous Artificial Intelligence of Indonesia) on the indonesia.travel portal to offer tailored itineraries for experiential travelers. ***
