Kepulauan Seribu: Jakarta's Island Paradise Beyond the City

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Kepulauan Seribu, or the Thousand Islands, forms part of Jakarta's provincial administration. The region spans 4,745.62 square kilometers, with more than 110 islands scattered across its waters.

It is divided into two districts, North and South Kepulauan Seribu, covering six villages. These include Pulau Kelapa, Pulau Harapan, Pulau Panggang, Pulau Tidung, Pulau Pari, and Pulau Untung Jawa.

The islands are home to a multi-ethnic population with diverse religions, customs, and traditions. This cultural richness, paired with stunning marine scenery, draws both domestic and international visitors.

Among the most visited is Pulau Bidadari, just 25 minutes from Marina Ancol. Known as an eco-resort island, it features the Dutch-era Fort Martello alongside scattered decorative statues.

Nearby lies Pulau Onrust, a favorite for those interested in Dutch colonial archaeology. The island once served as a transit point for ships heading to old Batavia.

Pulau Macan offers a quieter escape, ideal for sunset views and relaxation. Visitors can also join coral-planting activities that support marine conservation efforts around the area.

Pulau Ayer, nicknamed the "Pearl of the Islands," once served as President Sukarno's private retreat. Its Papua-inspired floating cottages give guests a distinctive island stay experience.

At Pulau Putri, an undersea tunnel aquarium lets visitors admire marine life without diving. A glass-bottom boat and sunset cruise further showcase the surrounding island scenery.

Pulau Tidung remains a must-visit, connected by the iconic "Jembatan Cinta," or Love Bridge. Its clear waters make it a top spot for snorkeling and mangrove conservation activities.
