RRI.CO.ID, Cianjur - Cibodas Botanical Garden in Cianjur Regency, West Java, is once again presenting the charm of blooming cherry blossoms, drawing visitors with its striking beauty.
On Friday, July 31, 2026, the sakura flowers (Prunus cerasoides), one of the garden’s most anticipated plant collections, are in bloom.
Cibodas Botanical Garden Branch Manager Dede Dani Rudiansyah said that the sakura trees at the garden have a unique characteristic, as they bloom twice a year: in January-February and July-August.
“In this blooming season, flower buds first appeared in the second week of July and began blooming in the third week of July. The current flowering conditions are quite good,” said Dede on Friday, July 31, 2026.
He added that the flowers are in fairly good condition, making this the right moment for visitors to enjoy the beauty of sakura in the site. However, the quality and length of the blooming period are greatly influenced by weather conditions.
“If the weather is clear or cloudy, the flowers can remain in bloom for about one to two weeks,” he said. Conversely, if rain falls continuously, the flowers usually begin to fall within three to five days.
Prunus cerasoides is a woody plant from the Rosaceae family that sheds its leaves. Before flowering, the tree drops most of its leaves so that the pink to white blossoms can bloom almost simultaneously.
Dede noted that the phenomenon creates a unique landscape, making it one of the main attractions at Cibodas Botanical Garden.
“The rare phenomenon of sakura blooming twice a year makes it a popular ecotourism and educational destination for those wishing to enjoy cherry blossoms without traveling abroad,” he said.
Cibodas Botanical Garden is inviting the public to enjoy the blooming season while helping preserve its plant collections. Visitors are reminded not to pick the flowers, avoid damaging the plants, keep the area clean, and follow all regulations so the beauty of the sakura can be appreciated by everyone. (Annaila Azzahra)
