RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Letvuan Coffee Festival will offer visitors a unique hands-on experience by allowing them to plant their own coffee trees as part of the event. The festival is one of the pre-events leading up to the Meti Kei Festival 2026, scheduled to take place in October 2026.

In an interview with RRI Voice of Indonesia on Thursday July 16, 2026, Victor Emanuel Budhi Toffi, Head of Southeast Maluku's Tourism and Culture Office and Chairman of the Meti Kei Festival Committee, said the festival is designed to provide visitors with memorable tourism experiences beyond simply tasting coffee.

According to him, local schoolchildren will also be involved in the festival through educational activities focused on coffee cultivation. Teachers will introduce students to different coffee varieties and explain the entire process, from planting to harvesting"We invite children because we want to share knowledge with them before the visitors come. They need to understand the potential of their own region," he said.

Victor explained that visitors will have the opportunity to plant a coffee tree and attach a personalized name tag to it. They can return several years later to see the tree they planted and even harvest the coffee themselves."You can plant it, put your name on the coffee tree, and maybe three years later, when you come back, you can find your own coffee tree," he said.

The experience continues beyond planting, as participants will also learn how to harvest, roast, and brew coffee directly at the plantation. The immersive concept is intended to give visitors a deeper appreciation of the journey from coffee tree to cup.

Victor said experiential tourism has become increasingly important because modern travelers seek authentic and meaningful activities rather than simply visiting destinations. By combining education, nature, and local culture, the Letvuan Coffee Festival aims to create lasting memories while promoting Southeast Maluku's unique coffee heritage.

The Letvuan Coffee Festival is expected to become one of the signature attractions supporting the Meti Kei Festival 2026. Through this initiative, the Southeast Maluku Government hopes to strengthen sustainable tourism while introducing the region's distinctive coffee culture to domestic and international visitors.
