RRI.CO.ID, Jember - Indonesia's Notohadinegoro Airport in Jember, East Java, recorded higher passenger traffic during the 2026 school holiday season. The update was shared in Jember on Monday, July 13, 2026.
Passenger occupancy on the Jakarta–Jember route reached between 70 and 85 percent during the holiday period. The figure exceeded the usual occupancy rate of around 60 to 65 percent on regular days.
Head of Airport Services at Jember's Transportation Agency, Edy Purnomo, said most passengers initially arrived from Jakarta. Passenger traffic later shifted as more travelers returned to Jakarta before schools reopened.
The airport had prepared flights connecting Jember with Surabaya during the holiday season. However, the route remained inactive because passenger demand was still considered too low.
"We actually provided the Surabaya route because it connects to many regions across Indonesia. However, there were no flights to Surabaya during the recent holiday," he said.
Airport data showed 371 arriving passengers and 322 departing passengers throughout June 2026. The figures represented an increase of around 30 to 40 percent compared with May.
Airport authorities are preparing additional services ahead of the annual Jember Fashion Carnaval (JFC). They will coordinate with FlyJaya to strengthen Jakarta–Jember flights and expand cargo services.
Edy encouraged travelers to choose flights between Jakarta and Jember for greater travel efficiency. He said the route offers competitive fares with a travel time of about two to three hours.
