RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The iconic Keong Emas Theater continues attracting visitors to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) cultural park in East Jakarta with its striking golden shell-shaped architectural design. Established in 1984, the theater combines education, entertainment, and Indonesian cultural storytelling through immersive large-format film presentations.

TMII’s official website notes that the theater was inaugurated on April 20, 1984, following an initiative by First Lady Tien Soeharto to promote national heritage. It was envisioned as an educational recreational venue introducing Indonesia's diverse cultures and natural landscapes through spectacular cinematic experiences.

Unlike conventional cinemas, Keong Emas features a giant immersive screen, advanced projection technology, and spacious seating accommodating approximately 700 visitors comfortably. Its shell-structure architecture minimizes interior columns, creating expansive viewing spaces while naturally enhancing acoustics for audiences.

Inspired by the legendary tale of Keong Mas, the futuristic design represented elegance, transformation, and Indonesia's technological ambitions during the 1980s. The theater also gained recognition for operating one of Southeast Asia's largest IMAX screens using advanced 70-millimeter film projection.

Beyond screening selected animated productions, Keong Emas develops original films highlighting Indonesia's rich cultural traditions, biodiversity, and regional attractions for audiences. Popular titles include The Glorious Komodo Island, Langkah-Langkah Kecil, and the animated musical Keong Emas, celebrating Indonesian folklore through engaging storytelling.

Recent upgrades have further enhanced the theater with modern projection systems, cutting-edge visual technology, and improved visitor facilities for families and students. Convenient accessibility within TMII also makes the venue an attractive destination for educational excursions and memorable weekend outings.

Visitors can enjoy captivating adventures that bring stories to life through immersive cinematic experiences while discovering Indonesia's remarkable cultural diversity and heritage. Combining architecture, technology, and artistic expression, Keong Emas remains one of TMII's most distinctive attractions for visitors of all ages.
