RRI.CO.ID, Bantul - A dazzling array of giant, intricate kites from 17 countries painted the skies over Parangkusumo Beach in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, as the highly anticipated Jogja International Kite Festival (JIKF) 2026 took flight from July 11 to 12, 2026, bringing together 32 domestic clubs and elite global master flyers for a spectacular showcase of aerial art and cultural craftsmanship.
The Jogja International Kite Festival (JIKF) 2026 has successfully transformed the southern coastline of Special Region of Yogyakarta into a high-velocity economic engine, with regional leaders projecting the global cultural event to dramatically stimulate the local tourism ecosystem.
"This international kite festival is not just a showcase of skill and creativity in assembling and flying kites. We hope this event becomes a driving force for economic growth, especially from the tourism sector," Bantul Regency Secretary Agus Budi Raharjo on Saturday, July 11, 2026, said as quoted by Antara.
Agus emphasized that contemporary tourism models must possess a robust multiplier effect capable of channeling financial returns directly down to grassroots community layers. He noted that Parangkusumo Beach maintains an ironclad position in the top-of-mind luxury and cultural coastal destinations across Yogyakarta.
This economic blueprint directly mirrors the grand vision of Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, who underscored that cultural preservation must yield concrete socio-economic dividends for rural communities.
"The joy of a festival becomes perfect when it leaves a good impression, drives the local economy, and continuously preserves nature," the Sultan remarked in a speech read by Yogyakarta Tourism Agency Head Imam Pratanadi.
The targeted economic injection was felt immediately by frontline micro-entrepreneurs operating along the beach perimeter. Ratih, a local kiosk owner, revealed that the influx of festival attendees triggered a dramatic spike in commercial transactions compared to standard holidays.
"When there is a festival like this, it's much crowded compared to a regular weekend. Revenue can increase by up to around 50 percent," Ratih shared.
JIKF 2026 Organizing Committee Chairman Anang Sarjiyanto reiterated that the festival's fundamental structural framework was meticulously designed to ensure community integration rather than just serving as a rigid sports exhibition.
The grand finale was held at Parangkusumo Beach in Bantul. The 2026 edition marked a significant expansion in global reach, drawing an elite lineup of 32 domestic kite-flying clubs alongside official cultural delegations representing 17 foreign countries. ***
