RRI.CO.ID, Magelang - Rupiah Borobudur Playon 2026, a running event in Central Java, will donate more than Rp600 million in registration fees to villages surrounding Borobudur. The initiative was announced during a press conference at the Borobudur Temple complex in Magelang on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

The donation will support waste management programs in 10 villages around the Borobudur area. The initiative demonstrates how the annual running event delivers social and environmental benefits beyond sports.

Regional Secretary of Central Java, Sumarno, praised Bank Indonesia for consistently organizing the event each year. He said the program successfully combines sports, economic empowerment, public education, and social initiatives.

He said the event also supports the provincial government's strategy to expand sports tourism across Central Java. According to him, attracting more visitors helps stimulate consumption and strengthen regional economic growth.

"Central Java's economic growth is largely supported by consumption. To increase consumption, we must attract more visitors from outside Central Java." Sumarno said.

He added that the running event benefits tourism, local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and surrounding communities. This year's edition also creates direct social impact through donations funded by participant registration fees.

Head of Bank Indonesia's Central Java Representative Office, M. Noor Nugroho, said all registration fees will benefit nearby communities. He explained the funds will finance village-based waste management programs around Borobudur.

"We collected approximately Rp600 million from runners' registration fees, and all of it will be donated to 10 villages for waste management programs." Noor said.

Besides the 5K and 10K races, the event featured MSME exhibitions, rupiah literacy campaigns, food inflation control programs, and affordable market operations. Participation also doubled from around 2,000 runners in 2023 to approximately 4,000 runners this year.
