RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism is stepping up its tourism promotion efforts in the Malaysian market through the Wonderful Indonesia Sales Mission 2026, aiming to increase international tourist arrivals, expand visits to destinations across the country, and encourage higher tourist spending during their stay in Indonesia.

Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, said in Jakarta on Thursday, July 2, 2026, that the program was held with the full support of the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and took place in two strategic locations: Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, on June 18, 2026, and Kuala Lumpur on June 19, 2026.

"Through this initiative, the Ministry targets not only higher tourist arrivals from Malaysia, but also encourages visitors to explore more destinations across Indonesia, extend their length of stay, and increase their spending while traveling," Marthini said.

She explained that this year's campaign highlights 10 Priority Tourism Destinations and five Regenerative Tourism Destinations, offering high-quality, sustainable, environmentally friendly travel experiences that provide greater benefits to local communities.

Marthini added that the 2026 sales mission was strengthened through a strategic partnership with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) (KAI). The collaboration is expected to improve connectivity between destinations while offering tourists a more convenient, safe, and integrated travel experience.

"KAI's participation is a strategic step toward enhancing tourism accessibility while introducing rail travel as part of Indonesia's tourism experience," she said. The event brought together around 25 Indonesian tourism businesses, including travel agencies, hotels, destination operators, and industry partners, with approximately 70 Malaysian tourism buyers from Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Kuala Lumpur.

She expressed hope that collaboration among the government, state-owned enterprises, and tourism industry players would further strengthen Indonesia–Malaysia tourism ties while contributing to national economic growth.

"Through strong synergy with KAI and tourism stakeholders, we are optimistic that tourism cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia will continue to grow and make a meaningful contribution to accelerating Indonesia's economic growth," she said.

KAI Director of Business and Business Development Rafli Yandra reaffirmed the company's support for the Wonderful Indonesia Sales Mission Malaysia 2026, describing it as part of efforts to strengthen Indonesia's tourism promotion in international markets.

He said KAI remains committed to providing safe, comfortable, and integrated transportation services and enabling Malaysian tourists to more easily explore Indonesia's leading destinations, particularly across Java and other regions.

"KAI is ready to play an active role in Indonesia's tourism ecosystem while delivering memorable travel experiences for international visitors, especially those from Malaysia," Rafli said. The program featured table-top business meetings connecting Indonesian and Malaysian tourism businesses, a product presentation by KAI showcasing its services, rail network, and rail-based tourism packages, as well as a networking session aimed at fostering long-term partnerships between tourism stakeholders from both countries.

Through the initiative, the Ministry of Tourism hopes Malaysia will remain one of Indonesia's largest sources of international visitors while reinforcing Indonesia's position as a high-quality, sustainable, and competitive tourism destination in Southeast Asia.
