RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the booming global wellness economy, with the Bali Wellness and Beauty Expo 2026 serving as a showcase for the country’s ambitions in wellness tourism and sustainable travel.

Opening the three-day event at the Bali Beach Convention Center in Sanur on Friday, June 5, 2026, Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa said the exhibition reflects a growing global movement that places health, well-being, and quality of life at the center of tourism development.

"Bali Wellness and Beauty Expo 2026 is once again an important momentum to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a quality and sustainable tourism destination," Deputy Minister Ni Luh Puspa said, as quoted on the ministry's official website.

The event, held from June 4-6 under the theme “Building Indonesia’s Wellness Economy: Towards a Globally Competitive and Sustainable Ecosystem,” features more than 140 wellness and beauty brands from 90 national and international exhibitors, a 35 percent increase from the previous edition.

The deputy minister said wellness tourism has become a key pillar of Indonesia’s tourism diversification strategy, aimed at attracting quality visitors who stay longer and spend more, generating greater economic benefits for local communities.

She noted that changing travel behavior following the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated demand for experiences that promote physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being.

"Wellness is a rapidly growing trend. From January to April 2026, Indonesia recorded 4.68 million international tourist arrivals, up around 8 percent from the same period last year. One of the fastest-growing and most resilient segments is wellness," she said.

According to data from the Global Wellness Institute, the global wellness economy is valued at USD 6.8 trillion and is projected to reach USD 9.8 trillion by 2029.

She said Indonesia has the resources needed to become a major player in the sector, citing the country's diverse wellness traditions, natural attractions, and growing tourism infrastructure.

"Indonesia has all the fundamental assets required to become a leading player in this trend. The Bali Wellness and Beauty Expo 2026 is tangible proof that Indonesia is becoming increasingly serious about building an integrated wellness ecosystem," she explained.

The event is also expected to support Bali’s Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) sector by boosting visitor arrivals, hotel occupancy, business transactions, investment opportunities, and local small businesses.

During the event, Ni Luh Puspa also witnessed the launch of the Indonesia Wellness and Beauty Entrepreneur Association (IWBEA), which is expected to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders and accelerate the development of a globally competitive wellness and beauty industry.

"Through the Bali Wellness and Beauty Expo, we are introducing Indonesia as a destination that offers healthy and high-quality living experiences. This is a strength that can become Indonesia’s competitive advantage in the future," she said. ***
