RRI.CO.ID, Belitung Timur - The newly inaugurated D’Sabru (De Sabang Ru’) destination in Pembaharuan Village, Kelapa Kampit, East Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, is rapidly becoming a local favorite for its unique blend of coastal wilderness and educational depth.
Nestled within a coastal forest rich with ancient trees and mangroves, D’Sabru represents a grassroots effort to harmonize environmental preservation with sustainable tourism.
The project is the brainchild of Erniyanti and the Pulo Lamun Village Forest Management Institute (LPHD). While the vision was ambitious, the journey has been marked by significant challenges. Over the years, the original team of 30 members has dwindled to just three core individuals, as many were forced to return to primary livelihoods in fishing and farming.
“Most members are fishermen and farmers, so they must focus more on providing for their families. Now, only the chairperson, secretary, and I remain,” Erniyanti shared on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
Despite the staffing hurdles, the ecological results speak for themselves. The coastal area has recently become a sanctuary for various migratory birds, a key indicator that the ecosystem is returning to a healthy, natural state. Currently, the site’s primary obstacles are infrastructure-related, specifically the need for better road access and public lighting to ensure visitor safety and convenience.
Future development plans for D’Sabru include several initiatives aimed at enhancing its educational appeal. The site will feature environmental classrooms designed to transform the area into a learning center where students can study mangrove ecosystems in depth.
Additionally, the project will offer aquaculture education, providing visitors with unique insights into local shellfish cultivation. Finally, there is a proposal by the local administration to establish herbal gardens that would integrate indigenous Belitung medicinal plants directly into the coastal landscape.
Beyond its biological value, D’Sabru holds significant historical weight. According to the Subdistrict Head of Kelapa Kampit, Yudi Brahma, the area was once a thriving settlement.
“Sabang Ru’ has historical value. This area was once a residential settlement, evidenced by the presence of old and ancient graves. This certainly holds important historical and archaeological value,” Brahma explained.
The presence of these ancient burial sites adds an archaeological dimension to the park, making it a living museum where history and nature intersect. As the local government looks toward integrated educational tourism, D’Sabru stands as a testament to community resilience and the enduring importance of coastal conservation. (Naura Sofia/EN)
