RRI.CO.ID, Gianyar - Indonesian Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana has lauded the 2026 Bali Spirit Festival as a premier national intellectual property (IP) event that cements Indonesia's status as a powerhouse in the global wellness industry. Visiting the festival on its final day at Puri Padi and Yoga Barn in Ubud, the Minister emphasized that the event is a benchmark for high-quality, sustainable tourism.

“I appreciate the organizing of the Bali Spirit Festival 2026 and am delighted to directly experience the energy this festival brings. Over these five days, from April 15–19, this festival has demonstrated that Indonesia is capable of producing world-class IP events, which we also support through the 'Event by Indonesia' program,” Minister Widiyanti said on Sunday, April 19, 2026, as quoted on the Ministry's official website.

Now recognized as one of the largest yoga and wellness pioneers in Southeast Asia, this year’s festival carried the theme Welcome Home. The program offered a holistic blend of yoga, dance, music, and traditional healing practices, drawing participants from over 60 countries.

During her tour, the Minister inspected several key areas, beginning with the Dharma Fair, which serves as a specialized marketplace featuring various wellness packages. She also visited the healthy culinary zone, a dedicated space offering a wide array of organic and vegan food options for participants.

Finally, the Minister stopped at The Grooves Stage, where she had the opportunity to observe an active Hatha Flow yoga session in progress.

Beyond the spiritual and physical, the festival demonstrated a rigorous commitment to environmental sustainability. Initiatives included the elimination of single-use plastics, advanced waste management, and the implementation of composting toilets to minimize the ecological footprint.

The Minister highlighted data from the Global Wellness Institute (2023), which places Indonesia as the largest contributor to the wellness economy in Southeast Asia, valued at USD 56.4 billion. Indonesia currently ranks 6th in the Asia-Pacific region and boasts the 3rd highest growth rate in the sector.

The economic impact of the festival itself is substantial. In 2025, the event generated a turnover of IDR 6.7 billion, benefiting local accommodation providers, culinary businesses, and cultural performers.

“As one of the pioneers of international-scale wellness events in Indonesia, and the largest in Southeast Asia, the participation of more than 60 countries shows its increasingly strong appeal at the global level,” the Minister remarked.

To wrap up her visit, Minister Widiyanti held a collaborative discussion at Plataran Ubud with organizers from the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival and the Ubud Village Jazz Festival. The meeting aimed to align major regional events with the Ministry’s broader strategic goals.

“Festivals must become a primary instrument in strengthening the competitiveness and quality of national tourism,” she concluded. ***
