  • The region recorded 530,150 visitors during the holiday period.

RRI.CO.ID, Wonosobo - Wonosobo District in Central Java Province, has reaffirmed its status as a premier travel destination, officially ranking third in Central Java for tourist visits during the 2026 Lebaran holiday period.

According to data released by the Provincial Agency of Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Wonosobo attracted over half a million visitors, contributing significantly to the province's overall growth. Total tourism across Central Java reached 5.86 million visits, marking a 7.4 percent increase compared to the previous year.

During the 2026 holiday window, Wonosobo successfully outperformed several major urban hubs, securing a prestigious podium finish behind only Kebumen and Klaten. The regency recorded a total of 530,150 visitors, solidifying its 3rd place ranking for regional tourism in Central Java.

This achievement is particularly notable as Wonosobo’s visitor count surpassed both Semarang City and Surakarta City, traditionally two of the province's largest tourism magnets. Local officials attribute this surge to the unique appeal of regional events and the consistent synergy between the administration and local tourism operators.

“This position puts Wonosobo below Kebumen and Klaten Regencies, while also outperforming several other regions,” said Head of Marketing at the Wonosobo Tourism and Culture Agency, Fatonah Ismangil, on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Fatonah attributed this success to the strong synergy between the local administration, tourism businesses, and the community. The Hot Air Balloon Festival, a signature event during the Eid holidays, remains a major draw for families seeking unique cultural experiences.

While celebrating the high visitor numbers, the Wonosobo Tourism Agency also issued an apology for any service shortcomings encountered during the peak season. The administration plans to use this year's data as a baseline for evaluating and improving infrastructure and service management.

"We will continue to encourage improved destination management and strengthened tourism promotion," Fatonah added, ensuring that Wonosobo remains a sustainable and favorite destination for years to come. ***
