RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian government has officially launched the People’s Train service to help people travel during the annual homecoming season. This service offers lower ticket prices while maintaining high-quality standards.

As Eid al-Fitr approaches, the Indonesian public has a transportation option that is both safer and more comfortable. These trains are expected to lower travel costs for families returning to their hometowns.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya personally inspected the trains at Senen Station in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. He wanted to ensure that all facilities were ready to serve passengers.

“This afternoon, I accepted an invitation from the President Director of Kereta Api Indonesia, Mr. Bobby Rasyidin, to personally inspect the fleet. We are launching the ‘People’s Train,’ which offers lower ticket prices with improved quality and comfort,” he stated.

The interior of the People’s Train carriages has been completely renovated to provide a fresh atmosphere. These changes were made to meet modern comfort standards for travelers.

“The interior of these trains was redesigned by KAI under the President’s direction about three months ago,” the Cabinet Secretary explained.

Ticket fares for the Jakarta to Yogyakarta route have been significantly reduced. This is great news for travelers who are on a tight budget.

“For the Jakarta-Yogyakarta route, these tickets usually cost around 250,000 rupiah. However, during this holiday season, they are being sold for 135,000 to 175,000 rupiah. The trains feature full air conditioning, clean restrooms, and comfortable seats that do not face each other,” Teddy said.

In addition to the new interiors, safety systems are a top priority for these service improvements. Major stations have also been upgraded to make the experience better for passengers.

The Cabinet Secretary hopes these changes will help the Eid al-Fitr homecoming go smoothly this year. “May all those traveling home have a smooth journey and arrive safely at their destinations,” he added.
