RRI.CO.ID, Bukittinggi - Sanjai Tourism Village in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, is the origin of a typical Bukittinggi snack, Sanjai chips. These crackers are made from cassava that is peeled, washed, and cut into long, round, square, and small sticks with a knife.
The local community has long associated Sanjai with Bukittinggi. In 2025, Sanjai Tourism Village's flagship product, Sanjai chips, was recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture.
The village is located in Manggis Gantiang, Mandiangin Koto Selayan Subdistrict. Strategically located close to Bukittinggi's city center, the village boasts several unique features, numerous arts and cultural activities, and a variety of traditional MSMEs.
The village boasts beautiful, comfortable scenery with expanses of green rice fields and plantations among fish ponds.
In addition to Sanjai chips, the Sanjai Tourism Village offers entertainment with an educational twist, such as watching Sanjai chips being made in a furnace and enjoying traditional Minangkabau dance, silat (martial art), and music performances.
Visitors can also experience the traditional Minangkabau meal tradition of bajamba, which emphasizes togetherness, equality, and brotherhood.
Visitors can also rent traditional Minangkabau clothing, ride in a horse-drawn carriage around the village, or experience merandang, the process of cooking rendang. Lodging is also available. (Misni Parjiati/Bambang MBKA)
