RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta – A joint initiative by Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore is transforming a hamlet in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, into a model for clean energy and community‑based education.
The collaboration has installed five solar power systems in Soropadan Hamlet, Tirtomulyo Village, Kretek Subdistrict, delivering practical benefits for residents while positioning renewable energy as a pilot project for long‑term community service.
UGM is committed to ensuring the systems operate optimally, with its team and local leaders conducting regular monitoring and mentoring. The Kretek site is envisioned as a model village for clean energy, supporting future Summer School programs and UGM’s community service (KKN) initiatives.
NTU’s involvement highlights the value of international collaboration in education and research.
By engaging students from across ASEAN, the program created a platform where academic learning meets cultural diplomacy, allowing participants to exchange perspectives on sustainability while contributing directly to community empowerment.
