RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) keeps on strengthening innovation in the horticultural sector by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to support the development of superior chili varieties. The integration of AI technology, plant breeding, morphological characterization, and data science analysis is expected to improve the accuracy of variety identification, accelerate the seed selection process, and increase the productivity and competitiveness of national chili commodities.

In a press release received by RRI VOI from BRIN on July 19, 2026, the Head of the Research Center for Data Science and Information, BRIN, Esa Prakasa, stated that chili is a horticultural commodity with high economic value, possessing a diversity of varieties with different characteristics, including spiciness, productivity, and environmental resilience.

According to him, chili research, which has been ongoing since before BRIN was formed, is now evolving by utilizing AI, spatio-temporal analysis, and monitoring various environmental factors.
