RRI.CO.ID, Semarang - The Central Java Government fosters community-based communication to combat hoaxes and AI-driven disinformation. The initiative was highlighted in Semarang, Central Java, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

The effort was discussed during the workshop, "Optimizing the Role of KIM and FK Metra: Creative, Independent, and Impactful Strategies for Communities." The program aims to enhance public communication through trusted local networks.

Head of the Central Java Office of Communication, Informatics, and Digital Affairs, Lilik Henry Ristanto, said digital misinformation has become increasingly difficult to identify. He noted that artificial intelligence has made distinguishing authentic and manipulated information more challenging.

Lilik said the Traditional Media Communication Forum (FK Metra) and Community Information Groups (KIM) remain essential because of their strong community connections. He emphasized their human-centered approach cannot easily be replaced by artificial intelligence.

"The roles of KIM and FK Metra are becoming more challenging because they bring human values that AI cannot replace, as they are rooted in communities, traditional media, and performing arts," he said.

The Central Java Government continues strengthening the capacity of both community networks. The goal is to deliver government information more effectively while improving public resilience against misinformation.

The workshop also highlighted the role of KIM in promoting local development, including MSMEs, tourism, and cultural heritage. Officials said community-based communication remains vital for strengthening digital literacy across Indonesia.
