RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Creative Economy is exploring a strategic collaboration with YouTube and Google Indonesia to strengthen the digital creator ecosystem. The partnership aims to accelerate the growth of the national creative economy through the development of digital talent, monetization of creative works, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Indonesia's Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, made the remarks while receiving representatives from YouTube and Google Indonesia in Jakarta on Thursday, June 11, 2026. According to the Minister, YouTube and Google serve as both platforms and strategic partners in Indonesia.
Their presence helps creative talents not only produce content but also build sustainable businesses, expand market reach, and create employment opportunities.
“Indonesia’s creative economy must become the new engine of growth by empowering digital creators, promoting local content on a global scale, and driving innovation through emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence,” Teuku Riefky said in an official statement.
During the meeting, the Minister outlined policy directions under the Creative Economy Master Plan (Rindekraf) 2026–2045, which will expand the number of creative economy subsectors from 17 to 21. The expansion includes strengthening emerging technology sectors such as AI, blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), Web3, and cybersecurity, as well as digital content sectors covering content creators, affiliate marketers, and live commerce.
As a follow-up, the Ministry is opening opportunities for collaboration between YouTube and the Ministry of Manpower through vocational training programs, joint curriculum development, and competency certification initiatives. The effort is expected to produce job-ready digital talent aligned with the needs of the creative industry.
“The Ministry of Creative Economy aims to deliver more concrete and measurable long-term programs. When training, certification, and industry needs are aligned, the creative economy can become a real solution for job creation while enhancing the global competitiveness of Indonesian creators,” he said.
The proposed partnership builds on previous cooperation. Last year, the Ministry and Google Asia Pacific launched the Google Play x Unity Game Developer Training Program to strengthen the capabilities of Indonesian game developers.
Meanwhile, Danny Ardianto, Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy for YouTube Southeast Asia, said YouTube provides a dynamic platform for Indonesian businesses and creators to connect with local and global audiences, contribute to GDP growth, create jobs, and support the digital economy.
“These creative entrepreneurs produce videos for billions of people who rely on YouTube every month for entertainment, educational, and cultural content,” he said.
Through the YouTube Partner Program, advertisers use the platform to reach creators’ audiences, while YouTube shares the majority of advertising revenue with creators. He noted that creators now have multiple monetization opportunities, including revenue generated through fan engagement.
“Through these innovations, we want to continue creating opportunities for content creators, musicians, and other creative industry players in Indonesia to grow their audiences, generate economic value, and reach viewers around the world,” he said.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of maintaining a balance between copyright protection, technological innovation, and AI literacy development. Both sides emphasized that future regulations should continue to support the growth of Indonesia’s creative industry, including creators who already earn income through YouTube.
