Netherlands Exhibits Games and Culture in Jakarta

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Dutch Embassy is showcasing its game designs to Indonesian people in Jakarta. The event is dubbed as "Clogs, Tulips, and Video Games - Game Design from the Netherlands."

The 12 games of various genres from Dutch developers are made available at the event. They are divided into different categories based on on their content such as adventure, mystery, puzzles, education, and construction games.

During the kick-off on Friday, June 5, 2026, the curator, Arjan Terpstra to RRI Voice of Indonesia said his team selected them because the uniqueness in the game design. The games chosen are also not too complex for first-time players.

From six categories, adventure is one of their main focus, especially the Horizon series being one of the Netherlands's biggest hits. However, he affirmed that video game is more than just an entertainment.

Arjan Terpstra furthe mentioned that culture is also an important aspect in a game, other than business and technology. "Because they are (game) really are wonderful vehicles to express yourself or express the thinking of a group of a studio; and also to get your story out into the world," he said.

While the exhibition is trying to showcase Dutch games to Indonesian market, General Manager of Dutch Game Association, Martin Spaans, revealed that she has been working with an Indonesian game studio for 10 years. "We understand that Indonesia is a very big market, and also very, very good talent here for talented game developers," she said.

Meanwhile, regarding the collaboration between Dutch and Indonesian game studios, Director of Games at Indonesian Ministry of Creative Economy, Luat Sihombing, saw an opportunity. According to him, the existing cooperation opens more opportunity for more partnerships between the two countries.

Apart from Horizon, the other ones in the exhibition are not AAA games. Some of them are education games, including one that is helping surgeons-in-training.

The Clogs, Tulips and Video Games exhibition will be open until 29 August 2026. Located in Erasmus Huis Jakarta, Kuningan, visitors can come and try games for free.
