RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The government officially issued the Minister of Communication and Digital Regulation Number 9 of 2026 as the implementation regulation of the PP TUNAS. This regulation serves as a technical guideline for digital platforms in fulfilling their obligations to protect children in the digital space to ensure national security.
The Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, stated that the issuance of this regulation is a concrete step by the state to ensure that Indonesian children are protected from various risks on the internet.
"Today, we issued a Ministerial Regulation derived from the PP TUNAS. Thru this regulation, the government is postponing access to accounts for children under 16 years old on high-risk digital platforms, including social media and networking services," Meutya conveyed in Jakarta, Friday, 6 March 2026.
According to her, Indonesian children today face various serious threats that are becoming increasingly real in their daily activities in cyberspace. "Our children are facing increasingly real threats, such as exposure to pornography, cyberbullying, and online scams." The government is present so that parents no longer have to fight alone against the power of algorithms," she said.
Through this Ministerial Regulation, the government establishes the stages of policy implementation that will commence simultaneously on 28 March 2026. The initial step focuses on deactivating accounts of children under the age of 16 on high-risk platforms in accordance with the applicable regulations.
This policy will be implemented on popular services ranging from YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, to interactive gaming platforms like Roblox. The government considers this firm step necessary to minimize the negative impact of technology on the mental development of children in Indonesia.
Meutya believes that Indonesia has taken a brave stance as one of the pioneers in child protection in the digital world outside of Western countries. "We should be proud, because Indonesia is one of the pioneering non-Western countries that have taken decisive steps in child protection in the digital space." "This step is taken to ensure that our children's future grows healthy in the era of technology," Meutya stated.
Thru this new policy, the government hopes that digital transformation in Indonesia can proceed alongside efforts to protect the basic rights of the younger generation. "We want technology to humanize humans and support the holistic development of the younger generation," she said.
