YouTube Complies with PP Tunas, Sets 16-Year-Old Age Limit

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – YouTube has officially submitted a letter of compliance with Indonesia’s child protection regulations (PP Tunas). In its latest community guidelines, YouTube has set the minimum user age at 16 years old.

Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, announced that YouTube has directly submitted a letter of compliance regarding PP Tunas. The statement was made during a press conference at the Ministry’s office in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

“Today, the government appreciates that YouTube, which is of course under Google, has submitted a letter of compliance. The compliance letter has been officially submitted directly to the Director General of Digital Space Oversight,” Meutya said.

She noted that YouTube is now reinforcing the age limit of 16 in its community guidelines. Additionally, YouTube plans to deactivate accounts belonging to underaged children and remove ads targeting children. Head of Government Relations and Public Policy for YouTube Asia Pacific, Danny Ardianto, stated that his team has long been focused on platform safety.

Danny stated, “We at YouTube align with the Indonesian government’s commitment to continue supporting the protection of children and adolescents in Indonesia. We have been investing in this area for over a decade, and we greatly appreciate today’s opportunity, as well as the ongoing engagement, to communicate with and assure the Minister and her team of our commitment to complying with the legal obligations under the PP Tunas.”

YouTube states that it will implement the regulations of PP Tunas gradually over the next few months. During the transition period, users under the age of 16 will lose access to their accounts.

As a preventive measure, users are advised to secure their data via Google Takeout. Although accounts will be temporarily deactivated, user data will remain stored and can be accessed again once they reach the age of 16.
