RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is not only a potential market for AI, but also creator and owner of that technology. Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, made the statement during World Engineering Day in Jakarta, Wednesday, 4 March 2026.

"Indonesia is a great potential market in the future and the world is investing in Indonesia," the minister said.

That was seen from Indonesia demonstrating readiness to adopt artificial intelligence through structured institutional and policy preparations. Indonesia completed the UNESCO AI Readiness Assessment, becoming the first nation in ASEAN to finish the evaluation.

With this, Indonesia is not only consuming artificial intelligence technology but also preparing governance frameworks. These preparations include legal, ethical, and social systems supporting development of future artificial intelligence innovation.

To support that, Minister Airlangga invited the engineers of the country to support the mission. "To mobilize our engineers, strengthen professional standards, quicken certification, promote ethical engineering practices, and support the development of semiconductor, AI, and green technology in Indonesia," Airlangga conveyed.

According to the Coordinating Ministry for Economy's press release, industries adopting artificial intelligence rapidly have recorded revenues three times higher than industries adapting more slowly. Productivity improvements also rising significantly, increasing from 8.5 percent to approximately 27 percent across sectors.

Globally, artificial intelligence is projected to contribute around USD15.7 trillion to the world economy by 2030. In Indonesia alone, generative artificial intelligence could add economic contributions reaching approximately USD243.5 billion.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s digital economy valuation is projected to reach USD124 billion in 2025, largest in ASEAN. The country also records mobile connection penetration reaching 116 percent, supported by 230 million internet users.
