RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) has just deployed its newest transport aircraft, the A400M, to conduct a functional test of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) landing system. The activity, which took place at Lanud I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Bali, on Monday, 2 March 2026, aimed to foster the technical operational aspects of the aircraft.
The Head of the TNI AU Information Service, First Marshal I Nyoman Suadnyana, explained that this functional test is crucial for the navigation system. Through an official press release in Jakarta, he emphasized the importance of navigation accuracy during the aircraft's landing procedures.
"This ILS test activity also aims to assess the readiness of the base's supporting facilities," Nyoman stated.
This exercise began with the departure of the giant A400M aircraft from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta. The aircraft then took a flight to I Gusti Ngurah Rai Air Force Base to commence a series of technical tests.
Moments after arriving in Bali's airspace, the A400M aircraft immediately performed a low approach maneuver to test the LSI system's functionality. This tactical step was taken to ensure synchronization between the aircraft's equipment and the ground landing facilities.
"The entire series went smoothly and safely. The test results showed that the navigation system and operational support facilities at Lanud I Gusti Ngurah Rai are functioning optimally," Nyoman said.
I Nyoman ensured that the success of this training makes the A400M fleet increasingly ready to be deployed in various defense missions. Previously, this advanced aircraft had also proven its reliability when delivering logistics to disaster victims in the Aceh region.
The process of delivering the aid covers various strategic locations from Lanud Sultan Iskandar Muda to Rembele Airport. With the completion of the functional test in Bali, the operational readiness of the Indonesian Air Force in humanitarian and defense missions is now even more solid.
