RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta – Vice Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, emphasized that the success of digital transformation is not measured solely by the extent of telecommunications network coverage, but by the sense of security and the tangible benefits felt by the public in their daily lives.

He made the statement while speaking at the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the Refinement of Digital Literacy Programs and Modules at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta, on Thursday, 15 January 2026.

According to Nezar, digital connectivity in Indonesia is now almost evenly distributed. However, the next challenge is ensuring protection for the public, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, women, and persons with disabilities.

“Our connectivity is already almost evenly distributed. What we need now is to protect the people, especially children, the elderly, women, and persons with disabilities,” Vice Minister Nezar explained.

He added that with 4G network coverage having reached 97.16 percent of inhabited areas and internet access covering around 80 percent of the population, risks in the digital space are also increasing. Threats such as hoaxes, online fraud, digital-based violence, and the exploitation of technology pose real dangers, particularly for vulnerable groups.

“The internet brings great benefits, but without protection, citizens can instead become victims. The state must be present at this point,” he stressed.
