Indonesia Gains Volleyball Experience Despite 12th-Place Asian Games Finish

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's men’s volleyball team gained valuable experience against Asian opponents at the 2026 Asian Games, finishing 12th after losing 1-3 to Kazakhstan in the match for ninth to 12th place at Park Arena, Komaki, Japan, on Saturday, October 3.

Indonesia started strongly, winning the opening set 25-23. However, Kazakhstan responded by taking the second set by the same score to level the match at 1-1, Antara reported.

Kazakhstan took control in the third set, winning 25-18, before closing out the match with a 25-20 victory in the fourth set to secure a 3-1 win.

Both teams scored a similar number of points from opponents’ errors, with Kazakhstan gaining 31 and Indonesia 32. However, Kazakhstan led in total points, recording 98 against Indonesia’s 86.

Kazakhstan was more effective in attack, converting 53 of 96 spikes for a 56 percent success rate. Indonesia recorded 47 successful spikes from 95 attempts, with an effectiveness rate of 50 percent. Kazakhstan also held an advantage in serving, scoring four direct points from serves compared with Indonesia’s one.

Despite the defeat, Indonesia performed better in several areas. The team recorded 76 receptions, compared with Kazakhstan’s 70.

The team, coached by Reidel Toiran, was also more effective in blocking, scoring 10 points from 42 attempts for a 24 percent success rate. Kazakhstan recorded six points from 47 block attempts, with an effectiveness rate of 13 percent.

However, Kazakhstan was more effective in digging, recording 18 successful digs from 33 attempts, or 55 percent. Indonesia made 15 successful digs from 34 attempts, or 45 percent.

The result left Indonesia in 12th place in the men’s volleyball competition at Asia’s biggest multi-sport event, concluding its campaign at the 2026 Asian Games. ***
