RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Beach Volleyball Athelete Bintang Akbar's injury hampered Indonesia's performance against Qatar's Cherif Samba/Ahmed Janko in the Asian Games beach volleyball final. The condition affected both his and Sofyan Efendi's play.

Bintang/Sofyan won the silver medal after losing in three sets. Bintang's injury worsened and affected his movement in the deciding set on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Indonesian men's beach volleyball coach Andi Ardiansyah said Bintang's injury began when he stepped on an opponent's foot near the net. The Qatari player's foot entered Indonesia's court during a block.

“Bintang was injured after stepping on an opponent's foot that entered the court during a block. At first, he did not feel it, but then his foot swelled,” Andi said in an official statement.

Indonesia and Qatar played a relatively balanced match. However, Bintang's pain affected his mobility as the match entered a crucial phase.

“The two teams were evenly matched. If he had not been injured, the result might have been different because the pain affected his movement, although the players followed the instructions,” he said.

Bintang's condition has prompted the coach to consider the team's upcoming schedule. Bintang/Sofyan are scheduled to compete on a tour in Turkey on October 13 before continuing their tournament campaign in Japan. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
