RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta –Indonesian sports practitioner, Dr. Fahmy Fachrezzy, has considered National Sports Day as an opportunity to evaluate progress and strengthen Indonesia’s sporting future. Indonesia commemorates National Sports Day annually on September 9, with the occasion providing momentum for reflection and progress.

Speaking on VOI Talk on Wednesday, September 9, Fachrezzy, described the occasion as a moment for evaluation, progress, and optimism about Indonesia’s sporting future. He said the sports industry should work with technology and nutrition sectors to support athletes and improve performance.

"Sport industry is working together with our planning because sport industry is supporting for everything like technology, like evaluation, like nutrition and everything. And we hope the knowledge for the industry of sport joins together, helping us to grow up,” he stated. He added that stronger collaboration could help Indonesia develop faster and compete more effectively against other countries internationally.

Fachrezzy, who is also an international aerobics gymnastics coach, identified talent scouting as a priority, covering both athletes and coaches while strengthening pathways for future development. He also called for continuous evaluation and improvement of coaching programs, including courses and development opportunities for athletes.

He said Indonesia should consistently target Olympic gold medals, supported by stronger preparation and greater sports industry involvement. For upcoming international events, he stressed that sports development also depends on economic, political, and social support nationwide.

Fachrezzy noted that limited funding affects training and overseas tryouts, making stronger financial support essential for Indonesian programs. At grassroots level, he welcomed growing public interest in running, cycling, swimming, and other activities as encouraging signs.

However, the practitioner also urged people to treat exercise as a lasting habit rather than following sports trends or fashions. He also encouraged children to begin with enjoyable activities, followed by talent scouting, promotion, competition, and evaluation from childhood.

The 43rd National Sports Day, commemorated on September 9, 2026, carries theme “Toward an Active and Fit Society.” The theme encourages Indonesians to make physical activity part of their daily lives while strengthening the country’s sporting culture.
